| Queen Mary in Long Beach | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| January 16th, 2005 Jason and I decided to spend the night at the Queen Mary in Long Beach the day before QE2 was supposed to come into nearby Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro. We arrived in the evening, and spent the night running around taking pictures of the Captured Cunarder. This wasn't an extensive photo shoot, but the photos below were the best of the bunch. I regret that my digital is cheap and the night shots I tried to take of her didn't work out so well. First we went to dinner and then to the Observation Bar. | We had a few drinks and walked around. It was sad to say that as everyone reports she isn't in the greatest condition. When you walk around her you feel two ways; as if it is a tragedy that she languishes, but at the same time a triumph that she still exists. I prefer to remain hopeful, and it's hard not to get excited about her as you walk her decks. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| I asked for a first class stateroom with all original fixtures. What I failed to ask was for the room to be on the starboard side of the ship, so though the room itself was charming, the view of the elevators and parking lots out of the porthole was not. If you book a room, try to get it on the starboard side if you'd like to pretend she's really at sea (though your stomach will much too settled if rumors of her rolling are true!). | ||||||||||||||||||||||
